Precision PTFE Gaskets and Seals Manufactured in the UK

Bluemay Weston manufactures precision PTFE gaskets and seals to standard and bespoke specifications for customers across a wide range of industries. Using our punching and water jet cutting capabilities, PTFE components can be produced in quantities ranging from prototypes and small development batches through to high-volume production runs.

PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) is a high-performance fluoropolymer renowned for its exceptional chemical resistance, extremely low coefficient of friction, excellent electrical insulating properties and ability to operate across a very wide temperature range. These characteristics make PTFE gaskets and sealing components particularly suitable for chemical processing, pharmaceutical, food production, electrical, aerospace, marine and demanding industrial applications.

Precision-Cut PTFE Gaskets & Seals

PTFE gaskets and seals can be manufactured in circular, rectangular, ring-shaped, frame-shaped and complex profiles to suit individual equipment and assembly requirements. Bluemay Weston produces components to customer drawings, dimensions or samples, allowing apertures, fixing holes, slots and other features to be incorporated within the finished part.

Using precision punching and water jet cutting, we can manufacture anything from prototypes and small development batches through to repeat production quantities. This flexibility enables bespoke PTFE gaskets and sealing components to be produced for applications requiring accurate profiles combined with exceptional chemical resistance, thermal stability and low-friction performance.

Exceptional Chemical Resistance and Temperature Performance

PTFE provides outstanding resistance to an extremely wide range of acids, alkalis, solvents, oils and other aggressive chemicals. This makes it particularly valuable in process equipment and fluid-handling applications where many conventional gasket materials may degrade, swell or become contaminated.

The material also performs across an exceptionally broad temperature range and absorbs virtually no moisture. Its naturally low-friction, non-stick surface can provide additional benefits where components are exposed to movement, repeated assembly or materials that might otherwise adhere to the gasket surface.

PTFE is less elastic than rubber-based gasket materials and does not provide the same compression recovery as EPDM, nitrile or silicone. It is therefore particularly suited to static sealing, precision gaskets and interface components where chemical resistance, temperature capability and compatibility with the operating media are primary requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions about PTFE Gaskets and Seals

PTFE gaskets and sealing components are widely used in applications requiring exceptional chemical resistance, broad temperature capability, electrical insulation or very low friction. Typical applications include chemical processing equipment, pumps, valves, pipework, pharmaceutical and food processing machinery, electrical equipment and demanding industrial systems.

PTFE stands for polytetrafluoroethylene, a high-performance fluoropolymer with exceptional resistance to chemicals, moisture, corrosion and temperature extremes.

Its combination of chemical inertness, low friction and electrical insulation makes PTFE one of the most widely specified specialist materials for demanding gasket and sealing applications.

PTFE provides exceptional resistance to a very broad range of chemicals while remaining stable across a wide temperature range.

It also absorbs virtually no moisture and has a very low-friction, non-stick surface, making it particularly useful where chemical compatibility, cleanliness and thermal stability are important.

PTFE components can typically operate across a temperature range of approximately -200°C to +260°C, although the precise limits depend upon the grade, pressure, mechanical load and application conditions.

This broad temperature capability makes PTFE suitable for both very low-temperature and high-temperature environments.

Yes. Exceptional chemical resistance is one of the principal advantages of PTFE.

PTFE is resistant to an extremely broad range of acids, alkalis, solvents, oils and other aggressive chemicals. However, compatibility should still be confirmed for unusual chemicals or particularly demanding combinations of temperature and pressure.

Yes. PTFE is widely used in applications involving strong acids and alkalis because of its excellent chemical inertness.

This makes PTFE gaskets particularly valuable within chemical processing, laboratory and industrial fluid-handling equipment.

PTFE absorbs virtually no water and provides excellent resistance to moisture.

This makes PTFE suitable for marine, outdoor and wet-environment applications where moisture absorption and dimensional change need to be minimised.

Yes. PTFE provides excellent electrical insulating properties and is widely used within electrical and electronic equipment.

PTFE gaskets and insulating components can provide electrical separation whilst also offering excellent chemical and temperature resistance.

PTFE can be used in many pressure-sealing applications, but gasket performance depends upon factors including pressure, temperature, material grade, gasket thickness, flange design and bolt loading.

Because PTFE is prone to creep under sustained loading, demanding pressure applications may require an appropriate filled or modified PTFE grade, specialist gasket design or additional engineering consideration.

PTFE provides significantly greater chemical resistance, a much broader operating temperature range and lower friction than most general-purpose rubber materials.

Rubber gaskets such as EPDM, nitrile and silicone are more elastic and generally provide greater compression recovery, allowing them to accommodate movement and surface variations more readily. The best material depends upon the media, temperature, pressure and joint design.

Both PTFE and PEEK are high-performance materials suitable for demanding chemical and temperature environments.

PTFE provides exceptionally broad chemical resistance and a much lower coefficient of friction, while PEEK offers substantially greater mechanical strength, rigidity, wear resistance and resistance to creep. The appropriate material depends upon the sealing, mechanical and environmental requirements of the application.

PTFE is particularly suited to applications requiring exceptional chemical resistance, low friction and broad temperature performance.

Klingersil compressed fibre materials offer good compressibility and mechanical sealing performance across many general industrial flange applications. The most appropriate option depends upon the process media, temperature, pressure, flange arrangement and required gasket characteristics.

Yes. Bluemay Weston manufactures bespoke PTFE gaskets and sealing components to customer drawings, dimensions, samples and specifications.

Components can be produced in simple circular and rectangular formats as well as rings, flange gaskets and complex profiles incorporating apertures, fixing holes, slots and other features.

Bluemay Weston manufactures PTFE gaskets and sealing components from sheet material using precision punching and water jet cutting techniques.

Punching provides an efficient manufacturing method for suitable repeat production quantities, whilst water jet cutting is particularly useful for prototypes, lower-volume production, larger gaskets and complex profiles where dedicated tooling may not be appropriate.

Bluemay Weston can manufacture PTFE gaskets and sealing components in quantities ranging from prototypes and small development batches through to high-volume production runs of many thousands or millions of components, depending on component size, material specification and customer requirements.
