Strong, Versatile Engineering Plastic Components
Nylon provides a useful combination of mechanical strength, toughness and wear resistance. It is frequently selected where a durable non-metallic component is required to provide separation, insulation, protection or an accurately defined interface between adjoining parts.
The material also offers good electrical insulating properties and useful resistance to many oils, greases and general industrial environments. Its relatively low weight can provide an advantage where a non-metallic alternative to a metal component is required.
Nylon can absorb moisture from its surroundings, however, which can affect dimensions and mechanical properties. Applications involving tight tolerances, prolonged water exposure or significant variations in humidity should therefore take this characteristic into account when selecting the most appropriate material.
